Which One Will It Be: Door #1, #2, or #3

After looking at the different social networking applications, I can safely say that I prefer Facebook over My Space and Ning. I love how simple Facebook is to use and the various applications it offers.

My Space in my opinion is too busy - too many things that take away from the information being displayed. Teens may love this adding their music - personal backgrounds etc. I become distracted by all the hoopla going on in the background.

Ning is ok if you want to start setting up your own network and they really have some nice things you can add for a price. Personally, I am just too busy for this one. I like Facebook because it does everything for me.

I would definetly use Facebook with our Library. In fact, we do now. It is a great tool for getting information to different groups. Our YA department uses it now as well as our Story Hour. We are currently looking for more ways to use Facebook with our library.

So, I guess we will see each other on Facebook. I know you can always find me there.

Travels With Nibbles

I hoping this may work

Avatars and Flickr

I love creating my avatar this week. It was alot of fun - I think she will be more of a "Sybil" by the time I am finished. ha ha ha.... I already have a flickr account and use that alot to keep in contact with the family. But this week I am a little frustrated with trying to get my slideshow up on my blog. I will keep trying to do this, I think it is a great idea and could be used in so many different ways.

I would like to use this for teaching basic computer skills, introducing new staff to the established staff, different activities happening at the library etc. I find it will be a great too. But first, I must get my slideshow up and running. So, if you see the slideshow on my blog you will know I have success!! If not, my grade will be a zero.. So wish me well.

Wiki - "it's a good thing"

As Martha would say "it's a good thing"

I personally think the Wikis are great they are very useful in any type of business not just academics or a library but any community. Libraries can use this for reference resources, tips and tricks with computers, web pages, etc.
They could manage meeting rooms, study rooms, etc. All in all a great assest to any facility.

It is definitely "a good thing"

I Tube, Me Tube, We All Want You Tube

I found this week's lesson fun and educational. I truely enjoyed looking at all the different You Tube and Teacher Tube clips. I found that You Tube was much easier, for me anyway, to use than Teacher Tube. You Tube gave me what I wanted right away instead of the multi searching that I had to do with "TT".

On the You Tube Clip that I have embedded below, I found it now only educational and relevant to what I do but also entertaining at the same time. I just love this guy. He makes learning something fun. I think it's an easy way to get your lesson across and makes one remember it.

So, enjoy my letter lesson on PodCasting in Plain English.

I have also used other clips from You Tube in showing staff and patrons quick lessons on Word, Basic Computer Skills and Parts of a Computer. They seem to like it.

See you all next week.

Foiled by Rollyo

I must admit this weeks lesson for some reason or not was a bit confusing for me. I could not figure out (at least today) how to but my rollyo into my blog. I am ready to pull out the keys on my keyboard. I like the LibraryThing and I will use that but Rollyo and I are having a personality conflict. At this point in time we are not speaking to each other. Maybe we can make up later this week and work out our problems.

I feel rolled over by Rollyo

RSS feeding frenzy

After playing with the RSS for a while I finally realized this is a great thing. Instead of me searching and searching for articles - it all came to me. At first it was frustrating but became easier as I worked and played with it. I guess I was a little intimated by all the aggregators - I was becoming aggrevated. I finally did find a couple of feeds I like. As I learn more about this, I hope to find it easier and easier to use and recommend.
